Academy Baptist Church, located northeast 3 miles, was organized in 1842 by Rev. Dan. McKay. Rev. G. B. Waldrop, Benj. Collins, and Nat. Harbin were its first officers. M. P. Lowrey served here as pastor while drafting plans for Blue Mt. College.
