The Quartermaster provided general supplies and rations for soldiers. He oversaw the bakery, blacksmith's shop, and carpenter's shop, and he supervised the corral, granary, and hay yard for the fort's horses and mules. When the fort reached its maximum complement of 152 men in February 1858, keeping them properly fed and equipped was no small task.
