Beall’s Pleasure was built in 1795 by Benjamin Stoddert, the first Secretary of the Navy from 1798 to 1801 and a Revolutionary War major. Stoddert was born in 1751 in Charles County and died here on December 18, 1813. The land had originally been granted to Colonel Ninian Beall of Georgetown.
