During his journey down the Ohio River, George Washington recorded in his diary that on Wednesday, October 24, 1770, he reached the mouth of Captina Creek at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon and, finding nobody there, agreed to camp. On his return trip, he camped just above the creek on November 14.
