The people of Sumter County erected this memorial in memory of local servicemen who made the supreme sacrifice in the cause of freedom, honoring men and women in uniform past, present, and future. Its roll of honor names those lost in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and it was dedicated on May 16, 1976, with local memorial committee officers and veterans organization commanders participating.
