The National Shrine of St. Therese in Darien, Illinois, is a Roman Catholic shrine and museum dedicated to Thérèse of Lisieux, the Little Flower. Its roots began in Chicago in 1923 as devotion to the saint grew, first at St. Cyril’s Church and then at St. Clara’s, where relics and personal effects from Lisieux were received. After demographic change and a 1975 fire destroyed St. Clara’s Carmelite Church, the shrine was reborn on the Aylesford Carmelite campus in Darien, with a new shrine dedicated in 1987 and later expanded and rebuilt. The site is especially notable for its major collection of Therese-related relics and artifacts and remains an active pilgrimage destination.
