In April 1755, General Edward Braddock, accompanied by Gov. Horatio Sharpe of Maryland, traveled this road in a coach and six horses on his way to Frederick, Md., where he was to meet Benjamin Franklin and George Washington to arrange for teams for the Fort Duquesne expedition.
