David Bennett Hill was born on August 29, 1843, in Montour Falls, New York (Havana). He served as an alderman, Elmira city attorney in 1865, a member of the Assembly from 1871 to 1872, mayor of Elmira in 1882, lieutenant governor from 1883 to 1885, governor from 1885 to 1891, U.S. senator from 1891 to 1897, and president of the N.Y.S. Bar Association from 1886 to 1887. He died on October 20, 1910, and was buried in Montour Falls Cemetery.
