On February 28th, 1873, Doctor David Burbank sold a right-of-way through his property for one dollar in anticipation of the benefit that railway transportation would have on his property. This right-of-way provided the connection to Los Angeles from the San Fernando Valley that stimulated the development of Burbank. On this site, the original wooden depot was built in the late 1800s and was replaced in 1929 by a one-story stucco frame station with a red tile roof and terra-cotta detailing that was destroyed by fire in 1997. Many people arrived at the Burbank Depot and contributed to the growth of Burbank, and railway transportation played an important role in the community.
