Built in 1853 for Judge Asa Holt, the Cannonball House is a Greek Revival townhouse in Macon, Georgia, remembered for a July 30, 1864, wartime strike during the Battle of Dunlap Hill. A Union cannonball crossed the Ocmulgee River, hit the house, and became the only recorded damage to a home in Macon during the attack, though no one was hurt. The property stayed in the Holt family until 1962, when it was saved from possible demolition. Now a nonprofit museum, it preserves furnishings and artifacts from 1853 to 1870 and includes a rare two-story brick kitchen with upstairs servants’ quarters.
