The Black Hills are a small hill range in southwestern Washington that extends across Thurston and Grays Harbor counties. Often treated as part of the Willapa Hills, they are topographically linked by line parentage to Rock Peak in the Olympic Mountains. Their highest point is Capitol Peak at 2,664 feet, and much of the area lies within Capitol State Forest, tying the hills closely to a major public forest landscape. Named for the nearby Black River and once also called the Black Mountains, the Black Hills have remained part of local identity through schools, sports, and a hospital name in the Olympia area.
