Blue Swallow Motel is a historic Route 66 motor court in Tucumcari, New Mexico, built in 1939 and recognized as one of the longest continuously operating motels on the state’s stretch of the old highway. Its 12-unit, L-shaped design, garages beside rooms, and office-residence arrangement reflect the early automobile roadside era. Open by 1941, it served Route 66 travelers and later became closely identified with long-time operators including Ted and Marjorie Jones and Floyd and Lillian Redman. Lillian kept it running after Route 66 traffic shifted to Interstate 40, and later restoration preserved its neon, period character, and status as a prominent Tucumcari landmark.
