The Syracuse and Onondaga County Fire Museum preserves the history of firefighting in Syracuse and the surrounding area from the former quarters of Syracuse Fire Department Engine Co. 4 at 229 Wolf Street in Little Italy. The station, built in the late 1800s and later expanded, became largely vacant after the company was disbanded in the mid-1900s, so its reuse also saved a historic firehouse. The project was led by people with deep Syracuse Fire Department ties, including James Ennis and former chief Dave Reeves, whose research, memorabilia collection, and historical work helped shape the museum and preserve the department’s memory.
