John Abbott, son of the town’s founder, was buried in a grave marked by an old stone. Since 1763, that stone had stood in a fence row at the upper end of town, at a site 128 feet east of Abbott Street and 35 feet south of Water Street. It was moved to this place in 1976 to make way for a parking lot.
