The Cherokee County WWI Veterans Memorial Clock Tower was established in 1919 through civic contributions with Mrs. C.E. Bartlett as chairperson. It was removed from the old courthouse in 1955, rediscovered and refurbished by Mr. Starr Smith in 1983, and in 1988 Starr and Eugenia Smith donated and rededicated it to all Cherokee County veterans with the pledge, “We pledge to give your work of love the care and appreciation it deserves,” from Cherokee County citizens.
