The F-84F Thunderstreak was a fighter manufactured by Republic Aviation and General Motors Corporation. It was armed with six .50-caliber machine guns, twenty-four 5-inch rockets, and six thousand pounds of externally carried bombs, and was powered by a Wright J65-W-3 engine producing seven thousand two hundred twenty pounds of thrust. Its listed performance included a maximum speed of 685 miles per hour, a cruising speed of 535 miles per hour, a range of 1,900 miles, and a service ceiling of 44,450 feet. Its dimensions were a span of 33 feet 7 inches, a length of 43 feet 5 inches, and a height of 15 feet 0 inches, with listed weights of 13,645 empty, 20,313 gross, and 26,998 combat; another maximum speed listing gives 695 miles per hour. The aircraft had a crew of one. Built in 1951, this aircraft was flown by the 401st FBG at England AFB in Louisiana, transferred to the 119th FS New Jersey ANG, then to the 366th TFW at Alexandria AFB in Louisiana, which deployed to Chaumont, France, during the Berlin Crisis, and was finally assigned to the 122 TFW at Baer Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Aircraft 51-1763 was retired in 1971 and was renovated by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10205 in August 2013.
