During the Civil War, service in actions from Harpers Ferry in September 1862 through Appomattox Court House in April 1865 brought repeated losses. At Harpers Ferry in September 1862, the losses were 5 killed in action, 3 died of wounds, 6 wounded recovered, 970 surrendered, and 15 deserted. At Camp Douglas from September to November 1862, 17 died, 26 were discharged for disability, 2 enlisted, and 59 deserted. In the defense of Washington from December 1862 to June 1863, 6 died of disease and 1 deserted. At Gettysburg in July 1862, the losses were 62 killed in action, 24 died of wounds, 153 wounded recovered, 10 captured, and 5 deserted. From Lewinsville and Bristoe Station in September 1862 and from September to November 1862 through October 1863, 2 were killed in action, 3 died in action, and 12 were captured. In the Mine Run Campaign from November to December 1863, 31 were captured. In the Wilderness in May 1864, the losses were 48 killed in action, 15 died of wounds, 104 wounded recovered, and 11 captured. At Spotsylvania Court House in May 1864, 2 were killed in action, 1 died, 22 wounded recovered, and 2 were captured. At Po River and North Anna in May 1864, 4 were killed, 3 died, 11 wounded recovered, and 21 were captured. At Totopotomoy Creek in May 1864, 3 were killed in action, 1 died of wounds, and 9 wounded recovered. At Cold Harbor in June 1864, 1 was killed in action, 6 wounded recovered, and 7 were captured. During the siege of Petersburg from June 1864 to April 1865, 16 were killed in action, 14 died of wounds, 90 wounded recovered, and 16 were captured. At Deep Bottom and Strawberry Plains from July 1864 to August 1864, there were no recorded losses. At Reams Station in August 1864, 1 was killed in action, 1 wounded recovered, and 26 were captured. In actions at Sailors Creek, Cumberland Church, and Appomattox Court House in April 1865, 4 were killed in action, 5 died of wounds, and 60 wounded recovered. At White Oak Road in April 1865, 1 was killed in action, 47 wounded recovered, and 18 were captured. At Sutherland Station in April 1865, 3 were killed in action, 1 died of wounds, and 17 were wounded.
