Wharton Brook State Park is a 96-acre recreation area in North Haven and Wallingford, Connecticut, built around 5-acre Allen Brook Pond, which drains into Wharton Brook. Opened on August 1, 1919, it was Connecticut’s first planned wayside park, created as an early roadside stop with picnic grounds, camping, and services for motorists in a busy travel corridor. Recreation still centers on the pond, with fishing, swimming, picnicking, and short footpaths. The park is also a designated trout park and supports wildlife such as great blue herons. After severe damage from an EF1 tornado and microburst on May 15, 2018, it reopened in 2019.
