Cold Spring Mountain
Nature
Cold Spring Mountain in northwestern Colorado rises near Browns Park and the Green River valley within a rugged landscape of slopes, draws, canyons, ridges, and plateaus. Much of its western side lies in the West Cold Spring Wilderness Study Area, created in 1980 and extending into Utah. Its varied elevations support riparian growth along Beaver Creek Canyon and Spitzie Draw, with surrounding sagebrush, saltbush, aspen, pine, and oak scrub that sustain diverse wildlife and recreation. The area also preserves a long human past, with prehistoric Paleo-Indian sites, Shoshone and Ute connections, and the frontier-era killing of Isom Dart by Tom Horn in 1900.
