Robert "Cal" Hubbard was a Sullivan County resident in 1944-45 and 1948-77. He was an All-America football player at Centenary College in Louisiana and Geneva College in Pennsylvania from 1922-1927, then played professional football with the New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, and Pittsburgh Pirates from 1927-1936. He later served as Supervisor of American League Umpires from 1954-1970. His honors included induction into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in 1962, the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, in 1976, the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana, in 1962, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1954, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 1965, the Helms Foundation Hall of Fame in 1969, and the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1970. He was also named to Grantland Rice’s All-Time All-American Football Team and to Football’s All-Time All-Professional Team in 1970, and was the only person ever inducted into both the Professional Football and Baseball Halls of Fame.
