Erected in 1908 by the Carroll Chapter Daughters of the Confederacy, this memorial honors the sons of Carroll County who died in defense of the Confederacy during the Civil War. It invokes Gettysburg and Chickamauga and names Carroll County men who served in companies of the 8th, 22nd, 25th, 26th, and 27th Virginia Cavalry and the 24th, 29th, 45th, 50th, 51st, 54th, and 63rd Virginia Infantry, while also listing battlefields and campaigns including 1st and 2nd Manassas, Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Frazier's Farm, Carnafax Ferry, Cotton Mountain, Lewisburg, Fayette C.H., Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Cold Harbor, Fort Donelson, Cloyd's Farm, Cedar Creek, Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Resaca, Murfreesboro, Drewry's Bluff, Wilderness, Piedmont, Dalton, Winchester, Middle Creek, Newmarket, Morefield, Plymouth, Atlanta, Five Forks, Dinwiddie C.H., Bentonville, and Franklin.
