Michael McKenzie Smith, born December 20, 1863, in Tattnall County, Georgia, and died July 6, 1929, in Winter Park, Florida, was a member of the Florida State Road Department from 1915 to 1919 and its chairman from 1919 to 1920. He envisioned and created a perfect network of highways for posterity. This highway links his birth with his death, cementing friendships of cities and states.
