A small sawmill at Sims stood in this quiet valley, where its foundations, saw wheel, and a log pond still remain. Over a span of 20 years, the mill changed hands at least four times and was rebuilt at least once. Despite these ups and downs, the sawmill became the beginning of a little community at Sims, also known as Hazel Creek, which eventually had a post office, a one-room school house, and about a dozen families.
