Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport, Tennessee, is a 3,750-acre city-owned nature park and planetarium that opened in 1971 and is the largest of its kind in the state. Its 44-acre reservoir predates the park, having been built in 1917 as Kingsport’s main water source before the city turned to the South Fork of the Holston River in 1944. The park combines protected oak and pine forests, trails, camping, fishing, and environmental education. Features include a fire tower, the Steadman Heritage Farmstead Museum, a nature center with native animal exhibits, and a notable gray wolf pack that has been housed there since 1992.
