Cooney State Park is a Montana state park centered on Cooney Reservoir, about 14 miles south of Columbus. Covering 309 acres on three sides of the water, it is organized around shoreline day use and overnight recreation. The reservoir, a 1,078-acre impoundment of Red Lodge Creek completed in 1937, is the park’s defining feature and the focus of most activity. Boating, fishing, swimming, picnicking, and camping make the park an important recreation destination built around the water.
