In a grove of trees at this site, CSA Gen. Nathan B. Forrest had headquarters during the Battle of Paducah on March 25, 1864. USA Fort Anderson was attacked, warehouses were burned, and about 60 homes were destroyed by USA after the battle. CSA lost 300 men and withdrew that night. The battle climaxed Forrest's memorable raid seeking horses, ammunition, and medicines.
