Lewis and Clark Recreation Area is a South Dakota state park near Yankton on the north shore of Lewis and Clark Lake, a 31,400-acre Missouri River reservoir formed by Gavins Point Dam. Built around water access and overnight stays, the park has three campgrounds with 418 campsites and 20 camper cabins, plus beaches, boat launches, and trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and nature walks. A privately operated resort and marina within the park add lodging, dining, and boating services, making it one of the state’s more developed lakeside destinations. Since 2014, zebra mussels have infested the lake and spread downstream below the dam.
