Susan Wissler was elected mayor of Dayton, Wyoming, on May 9, 1911, when the community had about 175 people, and she served two two-year terms. Her administration was marked by civic improvements and community betterment, and her campaign promise to curb gaming and regulate the operation of saloons was fulfilled in measure. She was also a pioneer in the community, teaching in the local public schools for several years and actively encouraging her students to continue their studies. As a practical nurse, she was remembered for her care in times of trouble, and she owned and operated a millinery and drygoods store for a number of years. Dayton had been her home since 1890, and she died in 1938.
