Miss Rogers' Music Room
Arts & Culture
1
Built opposite the public school for Laura T. Rogers, this music room served from 1880 to 1920 as the place where she taught piano and choral music from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M., six days a week, eight months each year. Four pianos were used all day, and eight pupils often played in unison. Its auditorium, with overflow seating in the yard, hosted recitals and dramas. As a church organist and choir director for 35 years, Miss Rogers kindled cultural interests in pupils of two generations.
