Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, about 4 miles southwest of here, was constituted on November 29, 1834. Its charter members included William T. Rushing and his wife, Belinda; Asa Geiger and his wife, Nancy; William Jones and his wife, Elizabeth; James McLeod and his wife, Jemima; Jared Johnson; John Turner and his wife, Lucy; Emily Turner; Henry Rowell; Cynthia Rowell; James Rowell and his wife, Sarah; William C. Goff and his wife, Jincy; Rebecca Beasley; and Nellie Goff. The Rev. Ryan Frier was the first pastor, and Jared Johnson and James Rowell were the first deacons. The present church is about 1 mile from the original site.
