The Hopewell Mound Group was an enormous geometric earthwork complex that stretched across a field almost a mile in distance. Covering an area equal to 100 football fields and reaching to the distant tree line, it was enclosed by two miles of earthen walls around 32 known mounds, including the largest ever built by the Hopewell. Its breathtaking size and grandeur remain both puzzling and amazing as an ancient, mysterious gathering place.
