Old Matagorda Post Office
History
1
Built before 1850 with square nails and hand-cut lumber, this building originally served as John Clauder's store. Coast storm water marks still reach halfway to the ceiling. From 1889 to 1964 it housed a U.S. post office, and Amos Duffy owned the building while serving as postmaster for 22 years. It became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1965.
