Circa 1902, the Tanner Mercantile Company stood at this original location, owned and operated by Berry Hampton Tanner, a prominent business and civic leader in Coffee County from 1861 to 1920. It was the first building in Douglas constructed from locally manufactured brick, built by Tim Tanner and R.V. Day.
