The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, in Exposition Park, grew from William Miller Bowen’s campaign to turn Agricultural Park into a cultural center and opened in 1913 as the Los Angeles County Museum of History, Science, and Art. After its art collections split off in 1963 to form the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, it became a dedicated science and history museum. Now operating with the Page Museum as the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County, it holds nearly 35 million specimens and artifacts, supports major research, and has expanded with renovated historic spaces, new galleries, gardens, and NHM Commons.
