John Lind was born March 25, 1854 in Persard, Smaland, Sweden to Gustaf and Katherina Lind, who emigrated to the USA in 1868 and settled at this location in 1872 in the homestead pictured here. John taught school in Severance Township, was admitted to the practice of law on November 24, 1876, was a member of the US Congress for 4 terms, was governor of Minnesota from 1899-1900, was president of the board of regents at University of Minnesota, was knighted by the King of Sweden and died in Minneapolis on September 18, 1930.
