Mission Tejas State Park in East Texas preserves a landscape shaped by Native Caddo history, early Spanish colonization, frontier settlement, and El Camino Real de los Tejas. The area was part of the Nabedache, or Tejas, homeland, and nearby Spaniards founded Mission San Francisco de los Tejas in 1690 before abandoning it in 1693. The park also includes the Rice Family Log Home, begun in 1828 and considered perhaps the oldest surviving structure in Houston County, as well as visible wagon swales from the historic road. Developed in 1934–1935 by Civilian Conservation Corps labor and added to the state parks system in 1957, it remains both a historic site and recreation area.
