Cedarville was the birthplace of Jane Addams (1860 - 1935), a humanitarian, feminist, social worker, reformer, educator, author, and publicist who founded Hull House, a pioneer settlement center in Chicago, in 1889. She served as president of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931.
