Grass Park was named in honor of H. W. Grass, Sr., a La Crosse banker who gave much to the early development of La Crosse. The original property for the park was given to the city in 1956 by the descendants of H. W. Grass, Sr. Later additions were given by David Clymer, Mildred Brandt and family, John Luft, and Joe Herrman.
