The first Methodist church in the county began as a Sunday school in the home of early settler Isaac Addison and later moved to the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Scott. It was organized about 1839 by Robt. Alexander, a pioneer minister, and soon a small hand-hewn frame building was erected and named for Mrs. Scott. In 1878, Mrs. Scott's son Philip gave the land containing both the church and cemetery to the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Membership reached 165 in 1885, and the church merged with the Cooks Point church about 1907.
