Long Island Beach was a riverside amusement and recreation park in Whitewater Township, Ohio, created in 1924 by Earl and Dolores Pope on land his father, John Pope, had acquired in 1888. Operating until 1956, it combined modest rides and games with swimming, camping, ball fields, dances, and a long stretch of beach, earning comparisons to a small Coney Island. Reached in its early years by streetcar from Cincinnati, it became a favored summer escape and a popular site for large company picnics. The park also hosted major entertainment before closing as other local recreational options drew visitors away; the land later returned to farming and reopened in 1998 for canoe-based river recreation.
