Berlin G. Myers was born March 1, 1917 in Knightsville, South Carolina, was a lifelong member of Summerville Baptist Church, founded Berlin G. Myers Lumber Corp. on November 19, 1939, served in the U.S. Army during World War Two from 1943 to 1946, landed on Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944, was first elected to Summerville Town Council in May 1965, was first elected Mayor Pro Tem after succeeding Mayor Luke in 1971, was first elected Mayor of Summerville in May 1972, received the South Carolina Order of the Palmetto in August 1989, and received the South Carolina Order of the Silver Crescent in December 1999.
