It was previously known as Altaville Foundry and Machine Works, Calavaras Iron and Steel Co., and later California Electric Steel Co. Its previous owners were D.D. Demarest and T.H. Fullen in 1860, Lawrence Monte Verde and the Demarest family in 1892, and the Lawrence Monte Verde family in 1928.
