Shiloh Methodist Church was organized late in the eighteenth century and first held services in a brush arbor before later constructing a log meeting house. Its frame sanctuary, built between 1825 and 1830, was the second building to serve the congregation. In 1836 Adam Gramling, Jr., donated the sanctuary and three acres to church trustees William Brooks, Adam Gramling Sr., John Gramling, and Ruben Gramling. Shiloh Methodist Church became the mother church of many Spartanburg County Methodist churches and some affiliated with other denominations. It remained active until about 1915, when its last 14 members transferred to Inman Methodist Church. Since 1915, the old sanctuary has remained an important part of the community and has hosted an annual homecoming service.
