The memorial is dedicated to all veterans of Union County, honoring the men and women regarded as the greatest to have walked the earth. It pays tribute to those who served for the freedom America stands for, including many who gave their lives in the greatest sacrifice. It also preserves the memory of those who answered calls from foreign lands to defend the freedom of this land, and it expresses a wish, for God and country, to preserve the memories and incidents of their association in the Great Wars.
