Cheatham Hill is a summit in Georgia, rising 1,122 feet, and was one of the crucial points contested during the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain in the American Civil War. Named for Confederate general Benjamin F. Cheatham, it saw heavy fighting that made it an enduring part of the campaign’s history. The hill also contains the Illinois Monument, honoring Union soldiers from Illinois and linking the site to both the intensity of the battle and the memory of those who fought there.
