In 1864, Genl. Jos. Shelby, moving from Clarksville to Batesville, passed through Richwoods and Buckhorn. At this place, then known as Buckhorn, his advance met Bill Williams commanding a Federal company. A battle was fought, in which 47 were killed and 2 captured.
