Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church-East was constituted to the glory of God by early settlers in 1859 in what was then Henry County, Alabama. Originally affiliated with the West Florida Baptist Association, it joined the Columbia Baptist Association in 1887. Its first church was built of logs. The first members were Nathan Whiddon, Mary Whiddon, Elizabeth Stephens, Sarah Parker, A. B. Williams, Moses Parker, Aner M. Blackwell, Sarah Stapleton, and Mary Parker. The first deacons were Nathan Whiddon and A. B. Williams. The church became part of Houston County in 1903. The present church was built in 1911, with improvements added since then. The church cemetery began circa 1904, and previous burials were in nearby church and family graveyards.
