At this site once stood the town of Moffettsville, which originated with the establishment of Moffett's Mills Post Office on February 16, 1818. By 1883, the town had a population of twenty-five and included a physician and a general store. Mail service ended here in 1901. The postmaster appointments were James H. Davidson on February 16, 1818; John Simpson on July 15, 1822; Andrew Milligan on May 16, 1826; Archibald Simpson on December 7, 1826; Joel H. Berry on May 17, 1838; William Sherard on April 23, 1842; Robert A. Reid on May 21, 1866; Thomas A. Sherard on June 5, 1890; and William T.A. Sherard on October 8, 1895, before service was discontinued on September 30, 1901.
