Marina State Beach is a protected shoreline on Monterey Bay in Marina, California, encompassing about 170 acres since its establishment in 1977. Its broad dunes, among the highest on the Central California coast, define the landscape and provide habitat for distinctive wildlife. A short interpretive trail introduces the dune environment and some of the species that live there. The beach’s open coast and steady winds have also made it a popular place for hang-gliding, paragliding, kite flying, and surfing. Along with recreation, it is widely valued for sunset views and the natural character of its coastal setting.
