Blandair is a historic estate in the Ellicott City and Columbia area whose history stretches from a 1689 land survey on Elk Ridge to its present role as Blandair Regional Park. Once part of Talbott’s Resolution Manor and later divided among several owners, the property became known as Blandair after Theodorick Bland acquired it between 1828 and 1845. Worked by enslaved people, it preserves major reminders of its nineteenth-century plantation past, including Blandair Mansion and a small slave quarter. After passing through several families and owners, Howard County acquired the estate in the late 1990s, restored key structures, and developed it as protected public parkland.
